Rescue Stories

On this page, we will share some of our rescue stories. Some are heart-warming; others heart-breaking. You can do so much to ensure that other stories have happy endings. Please contact us to volunteer or donate.

Colorado Auction Rescue

In early July 2006, SWLR was notified that a number of llamas would be sold at an area auction house. Because slaughter house and exotic meats buyers frequent these locations, SWLR members and friends jumped in to raise donations and rescue these llamas. Our representatives attended the auction, purchased the llamas that were not going for high dollar, and brought them back to our respective homes. more>>

Attacked by a Mountain Lion

Hopeful, at about seven months old, had been horribly attacked by a mountain lion near Elizabeth, CO. Her mother, who we suspect had been trying to protect Hopeful, was killed by the lion. The owner didn't have the experience or ability to treat the little girl, so contacted local vets. Terri Nelson-Baird was then contacted, and she got in touch with L'illette at SWLR. Terri brought the girl to us at Rocky Mountain Llamas, where she was treated twice daily for several weeks.more>>
